Remember, the site can only handle stocks recognized by Finviz, so don't complain if your bankrupt Burmese textiles factory stock that only trades via people mailing physical shares to each other doesn't work.
- First to under $1 wins.
- The game may also just have an end date where whoever's the poorest wins. We'll let you know.
- The person with the most money at the end of the game must write a condescending positive article on the stock that gained them the most money.
- The winner has the opportunity to sell a car they own to any other participant of their choice for $100. They may choose not to sell, but the selected loser is obligated to buy it. The winner has like a week to decide.
- I cheaped out on many aspects of the site in order to "make it feel like it's really from 1997" so yeah it's slow as shit and bad in various ways. Every crack about my handiwork will add at least $100 to your balance.
- Have fun and literally go for broke.
Update 12/17:
We had an outage earlier today due to an issue with our Azure account. Everything should be working again.
Update 12/13:
We didn't think it was possible but it turns out there were EVEN MORE bugs in the simulator which had to be fixed. Only one that could possibly be used to cheat, but also one that didn't let you sell stocks, and one that didn't record the cost of positions entering the database (yikes!). This time I actually tested everything before deploying the new version and saying "yoooooo BCPU is back in the game just in time for the market meltdown" so hopefully now it's smooth sailing. Third time's a charm??? Also, for you hackers, we've added some new API error messages for additional corner cases.
Also, all the old accounts are still active and have had their cash reset. There's no need to make a new account but feel free to tell me if you want your old account deleted. You can also have alter egos that fade each other so in the end one of you is always right, idc.
Update 12/12:
A critical flaw in the logic of the game has been patched. This bug allowed for assets to be purchased afterhours at their core market hours close price. By locating assets that had fallen in price afterhours, it was possible to buy them at an inflated price and then instantly sell them for a much lower price at market open.
Just as in real financial markets, flaws allowing for tremendous personal gain are prone to instant and heavy abuse by both insiders and the public. That type of behavior is exactly what BCPU observed in relation to this issue and the offending parties have been punished exactly as they would be in the real world (a fine of ~0.03% of their net worth to thoroughly discourage the same behavior in the future).
Though we agree the abuse of this bug is "funny as shit" and "honestly makes this financial simulation soooooo much more realistic" we have decided to wipe the slate clean and start fresh. For now, trading outside of core market hours (9:30AM - 4PM EST) has been blocked, though this may change in the near future. YOU DO NOT NEED TO MAKE A NEW ACCOUNT! For now:
